Advanced High Temperature Reactor Technology
Superior Graphite High Temperature technology has evolved into a unique and proprietary process. This process is applied
for the electro-thermal purification of graphite and carbon and for the carbo-thermal synthesis of advanced ceramic materials as follows:
- Continuous graphitization process achieving temperatures up to 3000ºC for processing
extruded shapes under carefully controlled temperature profile and environmental conditions.
- Unique flexibility to accommodate graphite shapes for unique applications.

Novel Applications of Electro-thermal Technology
Superior Graphite utilizes its expertise in electro-thermal technology to maintain a high level of research and development on applications for the resistive heating of graphite materials or graphite-based compounds. This has resulted in the innovation of the following technologies:
SNOWFREE™
SNOWFREE™ is a proprietary asphalt-based paving system developed to maintain the surface of an asphalt pavement free of snow.
This system has been developed for installations that are plagued by snowfall disruptions and where safe winter operations are required.
Electroconsolidation
Electroconsolidation is a unique and proprietary sintering process capable of reaching well-controlled temperatures above 2500ºC. The system is also operated under controlled environmental conditions and pressure. The environment atmosphere in the reaction zone can be varied according to the specific material to be processed.
This is a highly competitive technology against processes such as isostatic pressing and spark sintering technology.
Oil-sand recovery
Superior Graphite is developing a technology for the in-situ recovery of oil from oil-sand deposits. This technology is based on the electro-thermal heating of carbon electrodes. The heat induced to the electrodes is then transferred to the oil deposits allowing the oil to flow towards recovery systems.
Manufacture of Engineered Graphite Shapes
Superior Graphite furnace technology has been developed to manufacture superior quality graphitic extruded shapes utilized primarily in the manufacture of high quality arc furnace electrodes for the iron and steel industry. This technology includes:

Manufacture of Advanced Ceramic Shapes
Superior Graphite has combined its expertise in powder handling and high temperature technology to develop a manufacturing process for the pressurless sintering of advanced ceramics into engineered shapes. The process includes:
- Sub-micron sizing of α-Silicon Carbide
- Green body shaping utilizing a proprietary formulation
- Pressureless sintering to near-net shape
- Specialized sizing to customer specifications
Milling, Sizing & Classification of Granulated Materials
Superior Graphite makes use of a wide range of milling and classification technologies for the sizing and classification of graphite, carbons and ceramic powders. These technologies are selected according to the intended application of our Superior products. In many occasions products are uniquely sized according to specific customer needs.
The available technologies include include a comprehensive line of mechanical and fluid energy mills, classification methods, and blending equipment. The particle size that Superior Graphite can deliver ranges from the millimeter scale all the way down to sub-micron sizes, and includes unique materials such as finely delaminated graphite flake.
Manufacture of Carbon Dispersions
Superior Graphite has dedicated manufacturing facilities to disperse carbon materials in a variety of carrier systems, water, solvent or oil based.
Carbon loadings and viscosities are designed according to industry needs and can be adapted according to specific customer requirements. Superior Graphite produces a number of dispersions that are leading products in conductive coatings for electronic applications, lubricants for large industrial machinery and railroads, etc.
