Toner is defined in printing as the “imaging material”. Most dry toner produced is used in high-speed laser printers.
Our unique Beta silicon carbide sub-micron powder, HSC® Silicon Carbide Powder, is used in small quantities (i.e. 0.5% – 1% by weight) as an external additive in dry toner formulations. The purpose of this powder is to improve flowability of the larger toner particles, while serving to “self-clean” toner buildup from the internal parts of the printer, without damaging them. This cannot be accomplished by the typical Alpha form of silicon carbide due to its morphology and hardness.
Superior Graphite supplies significant tonnage of this unique product globally, to improve the quality of toners, and to solve related problems, as the industry moves to toner particles with a smaller average size.
