EH&S Engineer/Specialist

Chicago-based multi-national graphite manufacturer specializing in high temperature, advanced sizing, blending, and coating technologies, is seeking a highly qualified EH&S Engineer/Specialist at the Corporate Headquarters.

Job Duties:

The EH&S Engineer/Specialist position is a member of the Engineering Department. This level is for the employee with some relevant work experience in at least one of the areas of regulatory assessment and compliance serviced by the Group (environmental support; health, safety & loss prevention; health, safety and compliance). This position receives and applies information, looking for appropriate opportunities to improve areas of regulatory practices and controls. The position leads projects or phases of programs of minimal to moderate complexity and risk, and medium duration. This position is mostly self-directed with a moderate level of creativity (e.g. looking for innovative solutions) expected. Decisions are reviewed by the Corporate Director Engineering.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, occupational safety, environmental science,  or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing Environment, Health & Safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Requires at least 3 years of experience assisting with compliance issues, permitting, and reporting requirements
  • Must possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of all state and federal regulatory standards including OSHA, EPA,  and DEP
  • Extensive knowledge of current safety and loss control practices is essential
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels; Proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Requires the ability to travel up to 25% domestically and/or internationally
