Purchasing Manager

At this time, Superior Graphite is seeking a highly qualified Purchasing Manager for the Chicago, IL, Corporate Office.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the activities of the purchasing group in procuring materials, equipment, and services
  • Researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history
  • Reviews requisitions for goods and services related to the purchase of machinery, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, or services necessary for multiple manufacturing plants/locations
  • Creates and initiates RFQ's/solicits bid proposals
  • Analyzes price proposals and other data and information to determine reasonable prices
  • Negotiates and administers contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives
  • Prepares and executes purchase orders in accordance to levels of authority and levels of monetary commitment
  • Ensures contracts with suppliers and vendors are consistent with corporate objectives
  • Participates in contract negotiations with suppliers to secure consistent supplies and competitive prices
  • Reviews and approves large purchases over buyers' limits
  • Develops purchasing plan and procedures for the purchasing area
  • Holds self and others accountable for complying with company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience- Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • 5+ years experience in purchasing
  • 2+ years managing direct reports
  • Possesses a sound understanding of purchasing ethics, Uniform Commercial Code, and legal contracts
  • Experience in process/manufacturing industry
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft (Word & Excel) and PowerPoint software
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Planning and organizing ability
  • Attention to detail
  • ISM certification preferred
  • Import shipment/compliance experience preferred
  • ERP system experience preferred
