Electric arc furnaces rely on graphite electrodes to generate the heat required to melt scrap during the production of steel.
Modern mini-mills conduct their primary melting with electric arc furnaces, while achieving the required final metallurgical properties through refining the steel in a ladle metallurgy furnace.
Mini-mills are the primary market for graphite electrodes, however many steel and iron foundries continue to melt with electric arc furnaces, as do precious metal reduction applications.
Superior Graphite produces ARK® Graphite Electrodes to serve the small diameter market, producing 8” through 16” (200 mm - 400 mm) graphite electrodes. |
