Silicon Carbide

Superior Graphite produces silicon carbide in a Beta crystalline form made by a unique, continuous electro-thermal process, developed for large scale production. The reactants are silica sand and solid carbon, which are converted in a continuous process. A unique microcrystalline Beta product results, suited for making fine microgrits and ultra-fine ceramic grade silicon carbide powders. These powders are perfect for use in Toner and Advanced Ceramic Part production.

Besides green Beta powders, green Alpha silicon carbide sub-micron powders are also produced, using the same state-of-the-art milling techniques to reduce course Alpha SiC grit to highly sinterable sub-micron powders. These powders are designed specifically for use in the Advanced Ceramic Industry, including wear parts and ceramic armor.

 
     

Alpha and Beta Silicon Carbide

Rounded porous shapes
High performance wear parts such as seal rings and pump parts, additive to toner for increased flowability and internal printer cleaning, additive to nickel, chrome, aluminum etc. for strength
Alpha SiC Hexagonal structure, relatively large single crystals, harder than beta, highly sinterable in sub-micron size.
